An exploration of affordable housing
Broad Based living is an an exploration of a concept of bringing sustainable inclusive growth. One of the objectives of Broad Based Living is to create a hybrid residential unit that intends to integrate majority of the property needs within the CBD and create a well-rounded rental model.
Design went as far as writing a paper on the subject and presented in Seoul South Korea at the Worlds Architectural congress in 2017.
As part of an on going study to develop ourselves and thinking as Architects we at times take exploratory
exercises. This study was to look at Cape towns affordable housing scenarios. This has been a contentions issue.
We looked at a mixed rental housing scheme instead of pure affordable housing.
We think this will get the dialogue going far easier. We first looked at integrating your professionals as this will create great opportunities for them to network, create business opportunities which will in turn grow the CBD economy.
Lessen cars on the road as many of them will get the chance to walk to work , lowering the carbon footprint. in 2017 our Director Mlondolozi Hempe wrote a paper on this topic and presented it at the UIA – World Architectural Congress.
